When we meditate, we are trying to develop the mind and eradicate eons of accumulated bad habits. Like an unruly child, the mind will rebel when the entertainment is restricted.
In Ayurvedic cooking there are two spices that are beloved more than any - ginger and turmeric. Let’s do some nerd talk and dive a bit deeper into what nutritional science has to say about the healing properties of ginger and turmeric:
Bhavana, or mental development, is not exclusive to the ‘meditation’ cushion, and can be practiced anytime. When we are sitting on the cushion, we use breath as the primary object to concentrate the mind. However, breath is only one of the observables that can be used as a meditation object.
Meditation is an elevated state of mind. It is only after the mind has been trained and developed that a meditative state may arise.
